This XII edition will be the largest of the Volterra Project story: not only we will maintain the extended ten-days formula introduced last year, but we are also proud to announce that this year we will be able to accept up to 14 students. But these two will only be formal changes. What will remain unchanged is our enthusiasm, our love for art and music, the curiosity, the imagination, the professionalism. Like every year the Volterra Project will reserve a trove of surprises both for the participant students and for us.
This year, two guest artists-the English guitarist Laura Snowden and the American guitarist Stephen Robinson-will join me in teaching the guitar master classes. Both Laura and Stephen express declensions of the Volterra Project’s concept of artistic fullness, and will offer wonderful examples of how a brilliant international career can develop outside the well-known and limiting ingredients of amassing competition victories, or avoiding choosing between a soloist “total” career and personal life.
The courses of Music Physiology will be presented by the Austrian-American Nicole Bachel and will aim to increase body awareness and mental focus through meditative breath exercises. Nicole will also provide nutritional advice and massage exercises. The students will learn a set of basic practices that they can bring home to help them in their future daily routine.
The seminars of Business of Music will be given by the experienced American business administrator Patrece Robinson. In her classes, Patrece will provide an overview of fundamental “career skills”, oriented both to the musician and to the music self-entrepreneur.
In addition, the Volterra Project 2018 will present again two very successful workshops.
“The Dramatic Side of a Guitarist”, given by the Greek actress and acting coach Ms. Olga George will try to respond to the countless requests from the students of the previous editions to be supported and guided in managing the anxiety and the stress of the public performance;
the British guitarist David Jaggs will present again his very successful workshops on “sound recording techniques” and his “Produce your own CD workshop”
So... it is with great pleasure, joy, and true pride that I invite young guitarists from around the world to this eleventh edition of the Volterra Project, Summer Guitar Institute. Join us for nine days of intense work and creative learning in one of the most enchanting and inspiring settings of the world.
